How to Transfer a ZIP File to iTunes

    If you have a ZIP archive that contains media you want to import into iTunes so you can sync it to your iPhone, iPod or iPad, you need to extract the archive to your hard drive using Windows Explorer. Once this is done, you can import your music, videos or photos to iTunes with the “Add to Library” feature.

    Unzipping the Archive

    Step 1

    Reveal the Charms bar by moving your mouse to the top right corner of your screen. Click "Search," type "This PC" (without quotes) in the search bar and select "This PC" from the list of results to open the Windows file manager.

    Step 2

    Navigate to the ZIP file containing the media you want to import into iTunes and double-click on the file to open it in Windows Explorer.

    Step 3

    Click "Extract all" and select the destination on your hard drive where you want the media to be stored. Click "OK" and wait for the message confirming the extraction of the files.

    Transferring Your Media to iTunes

    Step 1

    Open up the Charms bar again. Click "Search" and type "iTunes" (without quotes) in the search box. Select "iTunes" from the list of results to open the software on your computer.

    Step 2

    Select "Add to Library" under the File menu in iTunes. If the File menu isn't displayed, press "Alt" to reveal it.

    Step 3

    Navigate to the location on your hard drive where you extracted your media, and then select the files you want to import into your iTunes library. Press and hold "Ctrl" to select multiple files. Click "OK" to add your selection to your library.
